The economic impact of the choices of utilities for buildings is far greater than any other design decision. The selection of a poor combination of systems and building components will endure for the life of the project, and cause ongoing wasted expenses. Among the most critical items for analysis are:
- Utility Rate Forecasts: The volatility of the electrical utility industry has led to many clients opting to design their own on-site generating plants.
- Emerging Technologies: We work directly with the Department of Energy, as Technical advisors to the Los Angeles Better Buildings Challenge, to survey and evaluate ‘Best In Class’ products for our clients and projects.
- Financing Options: Traditionally, infrastructure projects generally did not receive the visibility or financial support from investors or lenders necessary to create reliable, energy efficient plants. Third-party lending, financed through energy savings or property tax assessments, is now a common option available to owners.
The Academy Awards show is broadcast live to over 150 stations worldwide. We can’t edit it, we can’t re-shoot it. It’s a show for and about our peers in the industry, so it has to be perfect every time.
We started with the goal of being able to broadcast to our audience right after a major earthquake. This building can take an 8.0 and we can stay on the air for an entire week – even if the city’s water and power lines are down – without cutting back any part of our operation.
